I have heard of some rather upsetting news that "Scientific Linux will likely to be dropped soon
as RHEL aren't planning to release source rpms outside the RHEL customers - only source tar balls".

Not sure if the change on source makes any difference to the Sc Linux development team.

But I shall be grateful if someone please confirm or deny this news.
