Hi,

To add about Quattor, we are in fact using it at LAL to manage every kind 
of SL system we have, INCLUDING desktops.

For more information, you can also look at LCG QWG (Quattor Working Group) 
site at :

https://trac.lal.in2p3.fr/LCGQWG

It describes in particular a variation of original Quattor called SCDB, 
probably more suitable to manage desktops.
