Thanks, Folks for the replys: Here is the appropriate output from a
lspci command,
I took out the parts that don't relate to the PCI bridge and VGA...

I am also beginning to think that this machine might have some memory
addressing issues...
so I will bring it in for a memory test...the LONG hard one to make sure
that there
are now issues there...as during boot, I'm starting to see some
interesting output.
Since we are seeing IO problems as well...and the inability to load the
agpart module, if
the memory is GOOD (which I'm hoping now that it isn't) then we have a
serious communications
problem between the BIOS, Operating system, and/or hardware.
I tried the Kubuntu Live CD last night just for fun...and it got stuck
trying to start X and just hung...no
output at all to help. Knoppix has trouble loading a non-existent apm
at boot, and starting X with
vesa doesn't succeed, but does with a second try using the fbdev driver
(which might just be an
alias?). Nice sharp image, but I don't know about the performance.
It's the ONLY thing that
has worked on this machine so far.
I have to head to Florida today and won't be back until tonight. But I
thank-you for your replies.
Bob
