Thanks, Folks for the replys: Here is the appropriate output from a lspci command, I took out the parts that don't relate to the PCI bridge and VGA... 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller (rev 04) Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.: Unknown device 0161 Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort+ >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0 Capabilities: [e0] Vendor Specific Information 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 04) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.: Unknown device 0161 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 10 Region 0: Memory at 3f800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Region 1: I/O ports at <ignored> Region 2: Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Region 3: Memory at 3f880000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 04) Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.: Unknown device 0161 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0 Region 0: Memory at fbd80000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 04) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode]) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size 08 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=02, sec-latency=0 I/O behind bridge: 0000d000-0000dfff Memory behind bridge: fbe00000-fbefffff Secondary status: 66Mhz- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort+ <SERR- <PERR- BridgeCtl: Parity- SERR+ NoISA+ VGA- MAbort- >Reset- FastB2B- Capabilities: [40] Express Root Port (Slot+) IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag+ Device: Latency L0s unlimited, L1 unlimited Device: Errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- Device: RlxdOrd- ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop- Device: MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x1, ASPM L0s L1, Port 1 Link: Latency L0s <1us, L1 <4us Link: ASPM Disabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk- ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x1 Slot: AtnBtn- PwrCtrl- MRL- AtnInd- PwrInd- HotPlug+ Surpise+ Slot: Number 17, PowerLimit 0.000000 Slot: Enabled AtnBtn+ PwrFlt- MRL- PresDet+ CmdCplt- HPIrq- Slot: AttnInd Unknown, PwrInd Unknown, Power- Root: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- PME- Capabilities: [80] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit- Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: 00000000 Data: 0000 Capabilities: [90] #0d [0000] Capabilities: [a0] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel Capabilities: [180] Unknown (5) I am also beginning to think that this machine might have some memory addressing issues... so I will bring it in for a memory test...the LONG hard one to make sure that there are now issues there...as during boot, I'm starting to see some interesting output. Since we are seeing IO problems as well...and the inability to load the agpart module, if the memory is GOOD (which I'm hoping now that it isn't) then we have a serious communications problem between the BIOS, Operating system, and/or hardware. I tried the Kubuntu Live CD last night just for fun...and it got stuck trying to start X and just hung...no output at all to help. Knoppix has trouble loading a non-existent apm at boot, and starting X with vesa doesn't succeed, but does with a second try using the fbdev driver (which might just be an alias?). Nice sharp image, but I don't know about the performance. It's the ONLY thing that has worked on this machine so far. I have to head to Florida today and won't be back until tonight. But I thank-you for your replies. Bob -- When in panic, fear and doubt, Drink in barrels, eat, and shout.
