Hello!               Re: Resolution and (default) packages?

A. Resolution:
I just installed SL 5.4 KDE and found that it apparently offers only up t
o
800x600 and yet I have a Radeon 9000 w/ 17" monitor.  Doesn;t SL offer
higher resolutions?

B. 'Scientific' software packages:
I thought SL default-installed a whole hoard of scientific/education
packages, as those I seem to recall from v 4.3 or older.  Where can I get
 these?
