Efforts have been made in the CentOS community to develop kernels
optimized for virtualized guests. One major issue is the kernel's
frequency timer. The default for kernel 2.6 is 1000Hz. Reducing it
to 100Hz solves some clock problems and improves the performance. The
100Hz kernels for CentOS seem to load fine in SL (tried with a CentOS
5 x86_64 100Hz kernel in a SL 5.0 x86_64 vmware guest). However, I
do not know if these kernels have been tested with Xen. See:

http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2189

for details.
