I found the site http://mypage.uniserve.ca/~thelinuxguy/doc/hdtest.html.

Read/write surface scan with "e2fsck -c -c -C -y /dev/hdc2" (/boot) was performed well.

However hdc1 is an lvm2 volume, and e2fsck refuses to check it. Does anyone know how to
perform a surface scan on lvm2 /dev/hdc2?
