When I added the second NIC via
redhat-config-ethernet, it apparently
replaced my default gateway IP from the
.1 subnet with the .2 subnet gateway
IP.  When I forced the default route
back to the .1 gateway IP, it quit
whining.  So the redhat tools caused
the problem.
