On another distro with which we were working with we were able to compile Fortran code with REAL values of kind=16 (which while leaving a bad taste in my mouth was a necessary).   On the SL 6.5 build this is being rejected.  I am assuming that the gfortran 4.4.7 that comes with SL 6.5 is NOT built to support that (as per the caveat in the documentation for 4.4.7).
