I assume that this is related to RHBA-2006-0620 which says:
A recent Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 security update of freetype
(RHSA-2006:0500) caused an ABI change to the library, resulting in
various crashes throughout the desktop.
Therefore freetype needs to update to freetype-2.1.4-5.el3.src.rpm on
anything that applied the update to freetype-2.1.4-4.0.rhel3.2.src.rpm
(this was a security update so was released for SL30...)
Although RHBA-2006-0620 is *not* a security release (it is marked as
bugfix!), it fixes a problem caused by a security update so probably
*should* be considered for release for all SL3* versions...
(In my opinion anyway)!
