As for monitoring you have a few options, the megaraid cli is a nice tool, storage manager has a nice GUI if i remember correctly, and for remote monitoring look at the SMIS provider.
SMIS is an industry standard for storage monitoring that works very well, there are a number of tools and API's that support it too. the down side is the API isn't documented well for consumption by the general public I wrote some documentation about it for a perl implementation of a client some years back here

when you get down to it CIM (the transport protocol for SMIS) is kind of like a sane version of SNMP where you can get just the raw data but you can also get the mib from the device you are querying.
