Thanks for the pointer.  I've started down that path after writing the 
email.  It seems buildinstall calls mk-images, etc, etc.  Looks like I 
just need to get the kernel-lt rpms in place and possibly modify 
mk-images to look for it.

It's been a while since I've had to dig into this sort of thing.
