it's been said that HAL is retired (http://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2009-November/msg00560.html, http://www.scribd.com/doc/63425975/Introduction-to-Udisks ) from 6.X , but my default installation has HAL processes running and an attempt to remove them leads to half of Xorg been removed ( not good i would guess).
