June 1, 2011 The first alpha release for Scientific Linux 6.1 has been released. This release has all the new updated packages from The Upstream Vendors (TUV) Update 1. It will install, and it appears to work, but no major testing has been done. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DOWNLOAD INFO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- DVD and Net Install downloads are at http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/6rolling/i386/iso/ http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/6rolling/x86_64/iso/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SL Changes from SL 6.0 (in addition to TUV changes.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- * redhat-logos - Shawn Thompson created a whole new graphical theme for SL 6 called "Edge Of Space". * sl-release - We pulled the fastbugs and testing repo's out of the repository file that comes with sl-release. They are now in their own rpm called yum-conf-sl-other. - This is done to fix the problem of people checking the fastbugs during the install, fastbugs is then not on by default, and updates break. * yum-conf-sl-other This contains the sl-fastbugs, sl-testing, and sl-debuginfo yum repositories. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN Issues ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Packages not compiled yet. - mksh Packages we change that haven't been changed yet. - plymouth - report Packages that built but we're still testing for one reason or another. - perl-IO-Tty - perl-IPC-Run - qemu-kvm - virt-viewer The Scientific Linux Development Team
