Rebuilding the kernel rpms using a patch based on the one from the lkm 
thread seems to fix the problem - at least it does for one test server.

I've now reported it to TUV as their bugzilla #426138 though since it is 
just a behaviour regression and not a security problem it might take a 
while to get dealt with... :-(

BTW this also affects Solaris NFS clients...
