The P5B actually seems to have a couple SATA controllers: Southbridge - 4 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports JMicronŽ JMB363 PATA and SATA controller - 1 x UltraDMA 133/100/66 for up to 2 PATA devices - 1 x Internal SATA 3.0 Gb/s port - 1 x External SATA 3.0 Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go) So the JM363 might not be the problem. You might want to make sure that your drive(s) are hanging off the Southbridge rather than the JMicron. I don't have one around here to play with, but that's another thing to check. I would guess that if your drive is hanging off the Southbridge, it might be possible to build a driver disk for it. Looking at http://gentoo-wiki.com/ASUS_P5B_Deluxe it looks like you should be able to install if your disk is not hanging off the JMicron: 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801HB (ICH8) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02) The mahcine I have here with a P965 chipset has: 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corp. 82801HR/HO/HH (ICH8R/DO/DH) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02) And I don't know off hand if the differences are enough to create your problem... -Karl -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- | Karl A.
