Just as a personal note, for file/directory wiping - free space wiping, I am using bcwipe
(it's shareware but never expires and works fine, providing enough wiping algorithms).

Similarly for image encryption I am using BestCrypt. That is, it creates an encrypted file
which you mount using a password in a directory. It also supports enough algorithms.

Latest currently: http://www.jetico.com/linux/BCWipe-1.6-5.i386.rpm

                     http://www.jetico.com/linux/BestCrypt-1.6-10.src.rpm
(use "rpmbuild --rebuild BestCrypt-1.6-10.src.rpm" to create the binary rpm, which is
created in a directory that I do not remember now).
