Hi Peter, The LiveCD seems to have a problem with your DVD drive. Maybe a IDE driver problem together with atiixp support. I vaguely remember that DVD/CD-ROM drives with DMA mode enable can give read-errors. Can you try the following boot options: ide=nodma or nodma Further boot options to try (which sometimes can help to read from DVD/CD drives) all-generic-ide irqpoll If this does not help, can you mount CD/DVD on your laptop and send me the output of "lsmod", and "hdparm /dev/hdc".
