Hi I am testing the live SL4.3 CD on a Dell Inspiron 6000 which requires an ipw2200 wireless driver. This bit seems to work but I am wondering whether iwconfig supports 128 bit WEP. (wireless-tools-27-0.pre25.4.EL4) I can configure my card and have entered it's MAC in the access point. I enter: ifconfig eth0 nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn etc iwconfig eth0 essid Whatever channel 1 key XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX mode Managed ap xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx where the XXX... is the 128 WEP key and the xx... is the MAC address of the access point. All these are reported correctly by iwconfig, including the bit rate. Sometimes I can ping the ADSL modem behind the access point and even start to login but generally after a few moments, the pings freeze and nothing is connected. man iwconfig implies, by the brevity of the key, that it only handles 64 bit WEP but, as I say above, the full key is reported by iwconfig eth0. What is supposed to happen? And if only 64 bit WEP is supported, how can I upgrade to an iwconfig that supports 128 WEP? I know there are issues with kwifimanager under KDE 3.3 but I was hoping that the underlying commands worked OK. I have had this laptop working under Kubuntu but that tends to use the latest drivers etc and KDE 3.4. It would be nice to have it working under SL4.3 which would make it much easier to manage my other (SL4.x) boxes. Is there a later wireless-tools that will work with 128WEP? Would I need a later ipw2200 driver? I see on the DAG repository there is version 26 wireless-tools but that is older than the current version 27... Any clues?
