Hello, As the popularity of Scientific Linux grows, so does the number of machines downloading security updates from ftp.scientificlinux.org. The trouble we are having, is that all of the ftp connections that yum does on an update (especially a fresh installs first update) has been triggering our site's autoblocker. We are working with our autoblocker people for a good remedy. We also believe that yum 2.2 will help alleviate this problem. But for the time being, ftp.scientificlinux.org occasionally get's blocked for a period of time. **What can you, as a community do to help? We are asking that as many places as can, would make local mirrors of whichever distributions they are running, and point their machines at them. You do NOT have to be on the official mirror list. You do not even have to tell us. **Who should make a local mirror? Commercial companies and businesses If you have more than 5 machines running Scientific Linux, mirror us. Universities, labs, personal use, anything else that doesn't fall into a place that makes money. If you have more than 10 machines, we recommend that you mirror us. You should at least start figuring out how. If you have more than 20 machines, mirror us. **How do I make a mirror and point yum at it? Mirroring https://www.scientificlinux.org/download/mirroring/ Yum change https://www.scientificlinux.org/documentation/howto/yum-change If I need to elaborate on any of those instructions, please let me know. This might initially be hard for you. But you'll find that a local mirror makes updates quicker and saves you time in the long run.
