Heh. I thought that if you had sudo, you wouldn't need the root
password. While the sudo security policies *can* be very
sophisticated, very few people use the subtler permissions. They
really tend to use all or nothing, and if you have sudo you have full
root access. I've actually urged and helped set up environments to use
more subtle configurations, and been overruled for the desire to keep
it simple.
