Has anyone tried with the newer compilers in the softwarecollections repo ?
Not sure how safe it would be to use a different compiler for a kernel 
module but softwarecollections does give access to gcc/g++ v4.9.2 v5.3.1, 
v6.3.1 and v7.2.1 ...
