That should work.  I've done that both with Apache httpd and Nginx on
both SL 6.x and 7.x.

Unless I really have to use httpd, I generally prefer Nginx as I find it
much easier to configure and work with - plus nginx and the various
"dynamic script engines" can run under different user contexts with
different privileges.
