More details would help. Any chance you could get us the output of "ldd cad-executable"? I know it may not be trivial since this kind of software tends to be wrapped in complex scripts.

A container might be the solution. Much easier to handle, no significant overhead, and it avoids the security hazards of an SL5 VM with a network connection. Have a look at singularity.lbl.gov .
