I am amused to see how systemd-based CentOS-7 seems to run ok on
RaspberryPi-type of machines (single core 1GHz CPU, 0.5GB RAM,
10Mbytes/sec "disk", Pentium3 back to the future).
I think we will see a return of daemontools or something equally (or more)
light weight, and not only to save on memory, cpu and i/o footprint.
People who tinker with these systems are not old school unix sysadmin
heavyweights, there is no patience (no time) to learn complicated
things like systemd or firewalld, no matter how well documented they are,
if complexity stands between me and my tinkering, out it will go,
let's see how quickly.
