to avoid the "requested URL error: 404 Not Found " message, while yum
tries retrieving the VirtualBox package, one has to change the
"$releasever" variable in the repo's baseurl address. Visible at
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/rhel/virtualbox.repo

and, as a workaround, adapt it to the latest SL6 version right now
available on Oracle's server: 6.6 - until they will update versions with
next vbox release

There are a number of not-necessarily-compatible-with-Virtualbox
kernels in the recent RHEL 6.8 release, which I expect to be in an SL
6.8 release soon. Those may be helpful.

I'm not sure what "modifying the release veriable" means?
