Further investigation on the weather station server has revealed masses of the following errors:
kernel: AMD-Vi: Event logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT device=00:13.0 domain=0x0008 address=0x0000000000000080 flags=0x0020]

It would appear the new kernel has picked up the IOMMU error reported in RH bugzilla 1274527
