google chrome problem SL 7.1

I have downloaded from Google
http://www.google.com/linuxrepositories/
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html and the 
current RPM version so listed.
Environment:  SL 7.1 (not yet SL 7x)

Result

bash-4.2$ /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable

chrome does display but has Aw, Snap (and more) displayed and must be 
killed (the GUI x in the bar does work -- a terminal based kill is not 
needed).

Suggestions?
