I'm using zoneminder at home for a video surveillance system.  Right now 
I have 5 HiDef IP cameras.  It's a bit of work to get it up and running, 
but it has good motion detection.  There's a fairly active forum 
community and lots of info in their wiki on www.zoneminder.com.
