Thank you for confirming my problem.

My solution is to explicitely require installation of "libotf" in the kickstart file.

My SL6.5 USB installer tarball is being updated now -
http://trshare.triumf.ca/~olchansk/linux/

Now if only I could figure out how to prevent the SL6 installer from writing the GRUB boot
loader into the source USB-installer disk instead of the destination system disk...
