OK.. I have seen udev problems when running virtual 32-bit machines on 64-bit arch but that is not related to this.
In general there is a lot of google-able stuff to find on how to make udev behave.

The machine is a Via Mini ITX CN900 that is used as a router. Its 32 bit. The CPU is a VIA Esther 1000MHz.
