Unfortunately, in the original request for help, he said he followed the tutorial at
http://vjetnamnet.com/how-to-setup-vnc-server-on-centos-6-3/

Which *does* state to connect to the client appending a ":1" in Step 3.  Long way around to get there, but we got there!
