Bob, this is what I get with a fairly carefully updated and maintained
6.2 system, which magically has been getting more and more stable since
I installed it as 6.0:
[root ~]# rpm -q syslinux-extlinux -i
Name : syslinux-extlinux Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 4.02 Vendor: Scientific Linux
Release : 4.el6 Build Date: Fri 20 May 2011 06:40:06
PM PDT
Install Date: Wed 10 Aug 2011 01:16:11 PM PDT Build Host: spacewalk.fnal.gov
Group : System/Boot Source RPM: syslinux-4.02-4.el6.src.rpm
Size : 1262476 License: GPLv2+

Packager : Scientific Linux

Summary : The EXTLINUX bootloader, for booting the local system.
Description :
The EXTLINUX bootloader, for booting the local system, as well as all
the SYSLINUX/PXELINUX modules in /boot.

and

[root ~]# rpm -q syslinux -i
Name : syslinux Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 4.02 Vendor: Scientific Linux
Release : 4.el6 Build Date: Fri 20 May 2011 06:40:06
PM PDT
Install Date: Wed 10 Aug 2011 01:10:36 PM PDT Build Host: spacewalk.fnal.gov
Group : Applications/System Source RPM: syslinux-4.02-4.el6.src.rpm
Size : 2121438 License: GPLv2+
Signature : DSA/SHA1, Sat 21 May 2011 05:58:42 AM PDT, Key ID b0b4183f192a7d7d
Packager : Scientific Linux
URL : http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/The_Syslinux_Project
Summary : Simple kernel loader which boots from a FAT filesystem
Description :
SYSLINUX is a suite of bootloaders, currently supporting DOS FAT
filesystems, Linux ext2/ext3 filesystems (EXTLINUX), PXE network boots
(PXELINUX), or ISO 9660 CD-ROMs (ISOLINUX). It also includes a tool,
MEMDISK, which loads legacy operating systems from these media.

Perhaps you might consider uninstalling the rpmforge version and install
the SL version in its place. You might also take some measures to make
sure that machine is still yours and has not been thoroughly compromised.
