This sounds like the problem I'm having with my laptop, which
seems subtly different from the xorg issue.
I can boot to runlevel 3 (or for me better level 1) as zxq9 describes,
Pat's sugggestion of dropping " rhgb quiet" at the end of the boot
command helps too, but I seem to get stuck when I bring the network
up - NetworkManager is a suspect.
