I have had problems with the 6.3 security updates too,
but I don't have gnome-screensaver installed.

I applied the updates from sl-testing then rebooted
- or tried to but the machine only got as far as starting NIS
(at least that was the last message on the screen).
It wasn't completely frozen - I could switch between
the boot messages and the SL6 circular "counting" logo
but couldn't get any sort of access to the machine.

I booted SL6.2 from a Live DVD, removed xorg-x11-server
packages, yum downgraded the other packages from 6.3
and rebooted successfully.
After reupdating these packages in a few batches,
rebooting each time I ended up with all the updates
and a working system.

(The batches were:
1 busybox
2 sos
3 libreport*
4 everything else - by accident).

This is the only machine I've tried so far.
It uses the "intel" X11 driver on an
Intel Corporation 82G965 Integrated Graphics Controller.
