problems installing 64bit SL 6.1 and 6.2

I am trying to install 64bit SL 6.x on my workstation.  Install goes as far as trying to detect hard drive and then it stops with bug report.  If you boot to shell on install DVD, and run either parted or fdisk, the drive is recognized.  You can create partitions on the drive too.  

Attached is the error log from anaconda.

Hardware:
Dell Optiplex 755.
4 GB of RAM.
750 GB Hard drive (drive is an advance format drive).
