Did you see this note:
You need to enable EPEL on RHEL 5 & 6 or compatible distributions like
CentOS before you enable RPM Fusion for EL. See the fedoraproject wiki
for instruction how to enable EPEL.

Your file list looks about right:
$ rpm -qpl rpmfusion-free-release-6-0.1.noarch.rpm
/etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmfusion-free-el-6
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion-free-updates-testing.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion-free-updates.repo

$ rpm -qpl rpmfusion-nonfree-release-6-0.1.noarch.rpm
/etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmfusion-nonfree-el-6
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion-nonfree-updates-testing.repo
/etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion-nonfree-updates.repo

Looking at your original error message again:
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository:
rpmfusion-free. Please verify its path and try again

Firstly, try installing yum-plugin-fastestmirror. It may be a single
mirror site you are having troubles connecting to. I think we both
picked up on you using the Fedora packages instead of EL6 - however we
both missed that it sounds like a network error!
