Linux is so stable that I don't get to dig into the internals often enough
to recall all of the little things that I bet I'm overlooking. Right now
SELinux is "Permisssive" and iptables is disabled--I'll deal with them
after I clear up the problems below.

I'm down to three glitches and would like to get past them. I think I've
duplicated the configuration from the SL5.3 installation but still have
the following complaints:

1. I have some Hummingbird Exceed users who depend on a greeter to
login--my immediate colleague and I use NoMachine's NX without problem.
The Exceed users can access files on the Linux host and login via putty
but I don't seem to be offering up what Exceed is looking for.

custom.conf looks like:

-------------------------------%<---------------------------------
# GDM configuration storage

[daemon]

[security]
DisallowTCP=false

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

[greeter]

[chooser]

[debug]

-------------------------------%<---------------------------------

and ps -ef|grep dm contains:

3. I have a noticeable delay in first access to a Web site and a good
(bad?) 15-second delay in sending email from alpine. Again, I'm pointing
to the same DNS servers I was using under SL5.3.

Anyway, I've run out of ideas and would really like to clear these up.

TIA

Clint
