We use the 2 TB WD20EARS disks for system/home/data disks for SL5 and SL6 exclusively. No problems to report.

This applies to WD20EARS disks with firmware 00MVWxx.

The first batch of WD20EARS disks we bought have 00J2GB0 firmware and they exhibit
the problems widely reported on the internet (bad performance, slow downs, etc).
The "fdisk -H 224 -S 56" (sp?) trick makes those disks useful, fixes most problems.

I figure the 1.5 TB disks are the same: early production disks have big problems,
current production disks all problems are resolved.

You did not mention what firmware revision is on your disks, so no
way to make any advice...
