I am a firm believer that a person should use the Linux distribution 
that is right for them.

SL does not support ARM, PPC, Itanium or non-i686 machines.
RHEL6/CentOS6/SL6 does not support non-PAE processors, natively.

If you have to program on those other processors, then it sounds like SL 
(and I dare say RHEL) is not the correct distribution for you.
