Jon Peatfield has pointed out that "sort by tHread" - "$H" does
work, and is does appear to be enabled in my SL5 alpine.

My memory of pine threading was that it wsa somwhat odd,
but it has already helped me to make more sense of this thread, so
I'll be using it from time to time.
