Here is a rather "neutral" view on the "top post vs bottom post" subject.

Traditionally, bottom posting has been a preferred style in the
mailing lists. More recently, top posting has been made the default in
some e-mail software ("Microsoft's involvement ?) which in turn
influenced the mailing lists. Anyway the details are in that wiki
article.
