SL4 and SL5
   yum install java-1.6.0-sun-compat
This will pull in the sun/oracle jdk, install it, and put links in the
appropriate places so that you have a java plugin in your browser.

SL6
   yum --enablerepo=sl-testing install icedtea-web
icedtea-web is the OpenJDK based java plugin.
