If he is using DHCP he does not even need that second line. It probably
will cause him problems.

Here is what my hosts file looks like after Network Manager adds the
current address line:
192.168.XXX.XXX	scientific.wizardess.wiz	scientific	# Added by NetworkManager
127.0.0.1	localhost.localdomain	localhost
::1	scientific.wizardess.wiz	scientific	localhost6.localdomain6localhost6

If you already have a line for the machine I am not sure what the
conflict would do to you.
