As a former summer employee of ORINS and ORNL during my college years
in the 60s (and therefore somewhat biased) and now a rural ISP with
all the dependencies that implies regarding support from the greater
Internet community, I agree with Christopher and Bart about the
justification for moving from CentOS to SL.
So, today I used Phil's stanza and wound up with the results below the si
g.
The list below the sig was truncated (right or wrong) by, e.g.,
rpm --Uvh --force
http://ftp2.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/55/i386/SL/basesystem-8.
0-
5.1.1.noarch.rpm
However, the following remain:
[root@shell work-2011-01-25-migrate-centos55-to-scientific-linux55]# yum

[root@shell work-2011-01-25-migrate-centos55-to-scientific-linux55]#
Further, 'rpm -ivh' using the SL kernel rpms fails with messages like
[root@shell SL-rpms]# rpm -ivh kernel*

What did I do wrong and/or how do I fix this?
Returning to Phil's comments, how do I know when and whether the migratio
n
was complete and correct?
It is not a production system, just a beach front from which I work.
kind regards/ldv
