apc or tripplite or something else

Is APC (or some other make) preferred over tripplite as a linux friendly ups?  Is everyone using nut or are the vendor supplied software good enough?

I have only used tripplite and nut and it has been less than satisfactory.  It's always a struggle to put one together.
