Indeed, we've seen same problem here and dropped
Dag/RPMForge from the list of repositories we propose
to SLC5 users: replacing system packages/libraries by
newer versions breaks the compatibility between
SLC/SL/RHEL/CentoOS ... so in the longer run it was
causing us more problems than bringing benefits ..
