I've tried this on the cluster here for a few days with mixed results.

It looks like it's obeying the polling directive, in that the load is
now intermittent.  When it's on though, it's _really_ on - gam_server is
more agressive about it than nautilus, plus nautilus still takes 50% of
the other core (in a not-insubstantial test client machine) to digest
gamin's input.

I'll jack up the polling from the 20 seconds I first tried to a lot
(say, 200 seconds), just to see if the problem scales.
