Thank you for the link; there's some very useful information there.

I'd already found the wired Ethernet drivers on the Realtek website,
but this wiki also confirms that the video driver works just fine on
the latest version of CentOS, which means it should work ok on SL5.2
as well.

I'll try the noprobe suggestion from the Wiki as well as the option
Jan Iven suggested in another response.
