I had the same problem with an Nvidia card which I solved installing :
ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/51/x86_64/contrib/video/
dkms-2.0.17.4-1.9.noarch.rpm
nvidia-x11-drv-169.07-1.0.x86_64.rpm
